Welcome to Syosset

Mere miles from a major city, but with a small-town feel

Living close to New York City can be very fun and exciting. It can also be a little overwhelming. This is why it’s nice to know that a fantastic place like Syosset exists. Just 35 miles from Manhattan, this hamlet is close enough to take advantage of everything NYC offers but far enough away to have a comfortable buffer zone.

You don’t, however, really even need to venture to the Big Apple if you live in Syosset, as this growing community has everything you need. With many stores, restaurants, and fun things to do, it offers something for everybody.

What to Love

  • A variety of outdoor activities
  • Excellent shops and restaurants
  • An outstanding school system
  • 45 minutes from New York City

Local Lifestyle

Although surrounded by more densely-populated towns, Syosset is a small community of fewer than 20,000 people. The well-regarded school system is one reason why many families live here. And because of its proximity and relatively short commute (depending on traffic) to New York City, it’s a favorite of professionals.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Whatever you need to buy, locating it in or around Syosset won’t be difficult. Broadway Commons has dozens of the top name-brand stores that sell clothing, furniture, jewelry, candy, and many other things. If you’re looking for the latest in women’s apparel, you don’t have to look any further than Cindi’s Boutique, which has been in the same location since 1974. If you’re in the market for something a little older or more unique for your wardrobe, Designer Exchange is a luxury consignment store.

When your shopping is done, and you’ve worked up an appetite, finding a great place to eat in Syosset is easy. You’ll definitely want to visit Arata Sushi for the best sushi in town. When you’re craving a porterhouse, filet mignon, or another big piece of meat, Rare650 will hook you up. And although this town is well above the Mason-Dixon line, this doesn’t mean you can’t get great southern cuisine. Mara’s Southern Kitchen has delicious catfish, gumbo, jambalaya, and other dishes with a Cajun flair and flavor.

Who needs to go into Manhattan to catch a Broadway show? At the Cultural Arts Playhouse, you can see world-class performances year-round from very talented actors.

Things to Do

One of the great things about living in Syosset is that you can immerse yourself in nature. At 400-acre Trail View State Park, there are miles of biking and hiking trails to explore that cross several different habitats, including forests and marshes. Birdwatchers flock (pun intended) to this park during the spring and fall migrations to see many different types of birds. If you want to be a little more active, Syosset-Woodbury Community park is worth a visit. In addition to a nature trail and playground, here you’ll find a pool, ice staking rink, baseball and softball fields, and courts for basketball, handball, tennis, shuffleboard, and bocce.

If you have kids, they’ll be eager for you to take them to Bounce! Family Entertainment Center, and you’ll also have a great time. There are quite a few attractions to keep everybody busy, including trampolines, bumper cars, laser tag, a zipline, and even ax throwing. And if you like escape rooms – or perhaps you’ve been eager to try one – Puzzle Break will offer a fun and challenging experience.
